Oriental Studies: The Oriental Numismatic Collection of Jena and the Early Caliphate
Coins are more than a currency. They wander from hand to hand, are durable and objects of avarice and desire. Coins are marvelled at and hoarded. Power is asserted on the and ideology propagated. For science they're a rich source. On the basis of some rare and precious examples from the Oriental Coin Cabinet the move from the young Islamic community to some global empire will be explained within the lecture.
